2 Early Child Sexuality (Ages 0-2 yrs)

3 The unique type of physical intimacy and emotional attachment between parent and infant is the early foundation of more mature forms of physical intimacy and love that develop later as a part of mature sexuality.

6 At the end of the terrible two’s, children begin to comprehend gender roles, they also tend to like their parent of the opposite sex

7 Neglect can have serious and long-lasting effects. It can be anything from leaving a child home alone to the very worst cases where a child dies from malnutrition or being denied the care they need.

16 Influences on Psychosexual Development Religion -Adolescents who consider themselves religious and attend church services are less likely to engage in any type of sexual behavior -Might change attitudes toward sex

17 Gay, Lesbian, and Questioning Overview -Many adolescents will initially have fantasies and possibly experiment with same sex but will eventually fade away -“Questioning” individuals will usually experiment with both sexes

18 Gay, Lesbian, and Questioning Negative Factors -Society is still discriminating -Teens often use derogatory terms -Problems for certain gay and lesbians go further than just being a teen

19 Gay, Lesbian, and Questioning -Teens who identify with being gay or lesbian are -2x as likely to be threatned or injured with a weapon -2x as likely to have skipped school -4x more likely to attempt suicide -Generally more likely to be kicked out of the house or homeless

25 MASTURBATION If children have not begun masturbating before adolescence, it’s likely they will begin this normal activity once the hormonal and physical changes of puberty start.

26 FIRST INTERCOURSE Sexual Debut: the experience of first sexual intercourse. -“an important milestone of adolescent development” -Average age is 17 years old CDC: U.S. high school students surveyed in 2013 -about 47% students had experiences thier first sexual intercouse by the time they graduated -about 49% students did not use a condom the last time they had sex
