Vincent van Gogh Background Information Art dealer, missionary, figure drawer, Impressionist painter, tortured artist Born in 1853 in Holland, the Netherlands; later moved to France Van Gogh mixed mediums and mainly drew with pencil; black, red, and blue chalk, reed pen, and charcoal. Had difficulty with relationships Suffered from epilepsy, manic depression, mental illness, and delusions Cut off part of his own ear and spent time in a mental hospital In 1890, after producing 900 paintings, Van Gogh shot himself and died two days later.

Andy Warhol Background Information Printer, photographer, painter, Pop Artist, silk screener, public icon Born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; later moved to New York Parents: Julia and Ondrej Warhola (immigrants from eastern Slovakia); Ondrej died in a car accident when Andy was 13 While working at his art studio, The Factory, in 1968, Warhol was shot 3 times by Valerie Solanas (member of S.C.U.M. [Society for Cutting Up Men]); he underwent emergency surgery for 5 hours Died in his sleep in 1987 while recovering from gallbladder surgery

How does the silkscreen process work? 1.Take a photograph. 2.Tightly crop the photo. 3.Transfer it onto acetate (clear plastic film). 1.Expose the image. 2.Underpaint the canvas with bright paint. 3.Create the final print by applying silk screen and black ink. 4.Make multiples with different colors. Materials Used: photographs, acetate, silkscreen canvas, squeegee, paint, brushes
