1 Comparison to Other Products When using this strategy, it is useful to focus on one design aspect at a time and choose the product you are comparing yours against carefully. How practical would it be to evaluate Aesthetics, Cost, Function, Fitness for Purpose AND Ergonomics all at the one time using this strategy for the baby’s high chair below ? Baby Chair A Bloom’s Fresco You may think both products do the same thing…from a product designer’s view they are very different!

2 Why so difficult to compare? Aesthetics: Modern, organic, fresh, minimalist… Fitness for Purpose: seats/ reclines baby/infant securely, grow-with-child configurations… Function: seats baby/child safely and comfortably, 360° swivel, removable tray… Cost: around £200 Ergonomics: comfortable, pneumatic height adjustment, multiple position reclining seat, 360 ° swivel … Aesthetics: traditional, geometric… Fitness for Purpose: ‘child’ to be seated for short periods at a time while feeding… Function: seats and ‘secures’ ‘child’ at raised height, popular with restaurateurs… Cost: around £30 Ergonomics: few obvious ergonomic features but many considered during design… Baby Chair A Bloom’s Fresco

3 So, to answer the previous question: How practical would it be to evaluate Aesthetics, Cost, Function, Fitness for Purpose AND Ergonomics all at the one time using this strategy? Q. Comparing Baby Chair A with Bloom’s Fresco in order to evaluate so many design factors at once would NOT be very practical or useful. A.
