6 Planning for the Future  It is critical to grow and nurture our own procurement talent when commercial skills are at a premium.  This requires encouraging and training new entrants to the sector to ensure we maintain the ability to provide. “Organisations are reporting that a growing percentage of their procurement teams are nearing retirement.”

7 Procurement Capability Procurement People of Tomorrow It is a Scotland-wide initiative led by the Scottish Government in partnership with Academia, Skills Development Scotland and the industry. It is not public sector. “Our ambitious plans include – working with schools, curriculum developers and careers advisors to build awareness of procurement in schools, colleges and universities, – promoting procurement as a viable and desirable career option, indeed a career of choice – creating multiple pathways into procurement and supply chain profession. – engaging industry to provide opportunities for young people”

8 Schools Engagement  Schools programme, partnership between City of Glasgow College, the Scottish Government and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) for 16 – 17 year olds: –to learn about the theory of procurement, leading to a college certification and recognised academic qualification –to help them understand and develop employability skills –to participate in a procurement project putting the theory into practice –to offer them the opportunity of work experience within a procurement organisation –to raise awareness of procurement

9 Pathways to Procurement Vocational and Educational Pathways  Modern Apprenticeship in Procurement Launched August 2014  BA (Hons) International SCM, Level 3 and 4, Glasgow Caledonian University September 2015  First HNC/D in Scotland for Procurement City of Glasgow College Industry Academy in Procurement  Post Graduate qualifications in Procurement

10 Modern Apprenticeship  Modern Apprenticeships – in a variety of areas, now including procurement  Funding – available for businesses, especially SMEs – workers aged 15 – 24  Benefits – “Earn and Learn”  SVQ 3 and option for CIPS Level 2 and or Industry specific training – Developed with employers in the public and private sectors – Accredited by SQA – Route to CIPS membership and accreditation
