1 Acceleration Page 11 of Scientific Notebook Section 2.2

2 Objectives: Describe Motion In Terms Of Changing Velocity.
Compare Graphical Representations Of Acceleration. Apply Kinematic Equations To Calculate Distance And Velocity.

3 Spi’s and CLE’s: CLE.3231.Math.2 Solve for variables in an algebraic formula. CLE Investigate kinematics and dynamics. SPI Solve motion and conceptual problems regarding velocity, acceleration, and displacement

4 Velocity & Displacement Bellwork
A doctor travels to the east from city A to city B (75 Km) in 1.0 h. What is the doctor’s average velocity? Show ALL WORK using the GUESS METHOD

5 What is Acceleration? The rate of change of velocity with respect to time. aavg = Change in velocity time required for change

6 Read Page 50(3 minutes) Look at Figure 10
What is the Velocity at Point A? What is the Velocity at Point B? What is the Velocity at Point C?

7 What are the different types of acceleration?
Velocity with Constant Acceleration Displacement with Constant Acceleration Velocity & Displacement w/Constant Acceleration Final Velocity After Any Displacement

8 Formulas for Constantly Accelerated Straight Line Motion

9 Guided Practice Page 12 of Scientific Notebook A car accelerates uniformly from rest to a speed of 6.6 m/s in 6.5 s. Find the distance the car travels during this time. 21m

10 Guided Practice Page 12 of Scientific Notebook A driver in a car traveling at a speed of 21.8 m/s sees a cat 101 m away on the road. How long will it take for the car to accelerate uniformly to a stop in exactly 99m? 9.1 s

11 Independent Practice Turn in to Teacher A car enters the freeway with a speed of 6.4m/s and accelerates uniformly for 3.2 km in 3.5 minutes. How fast (in m/s) is the car moving after this time? 24m/s

12 Independent Practice These will be taken up for a grade today.
Turn in to Teacher These will be taken up for a grade today. Please do your own work. Read Page 54; Then Look at Sample Problem D on page 55. Complete: Problems 1-4 Page 55

13 Closure: Did you Know? Decreases in speed are sometimes called decelerations. Despite the sound of the name, decelerations are really a special case of acceleration in which the magnitude of the velocity – and thus the speed - decreases with time.

14 Homework Practice E Problems: page 58 (1-6).
Due Monday – Turn in at the Beginning of class or no credit for assignment will be given Show All Work Using GUESS METHOD
