#1 Career Choice: Mechanical Engineer Career Cluster: Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics(S.T.E.M)

Introduction Engineering has always been interesting for me. I think that my brother influenced me a little bit since he majors in engineering at his college. I’ve always liked tinkering with things too.

Career Cluster Mechanical Engineering is in the architecture & engineering cluster Description Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment as centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems.

Nature of Work Mechanical engineers research, plan, and design mechanical and electromechanical products and systems and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems in performing duties.

Working Conditions Work is usually in an office, with some outdoor work. They may have to work near moving mechanical parts and in high, dangerous places. They can be exposed to very humid places and risk electrical shock.
