Our Mission and Vision To promote and advance indigenous knowledge systems through research and development by making it a valued health model in the global environment and to redress health traditions, which until now have neglected health research priorities and issues. To be a centre of excellence in traditional medicines research regionally and to be competitive globally

Conclusion To support the mission and vision of MRC and support National Programmes on Health, science and Technology Seek increased baseline support from MRC if IKS is to make and impact – seek a baseline funding of R2 million per year - Requesting R2,5 million for infrastructural development at Delft ( Match up R4 million from DST for equipment) Increase the science staff complement in IKS To get science to benefit our communities To develop and manage partnerships and consortia effectively (African Initiative on Traditional Medicines, Indian Traditional Medicines, WHO Afro scientific advisory committee) To be a centre of excellence in Traditional Medicines research Capacitated GP (clinical trials), Traditional healers (Training, knowledge transfer, IP, Commercialization), Communities (poverty reduction, business skills, community enterprises), Scientists (State of the art equipment and research) Empowerment (CPPP), Business development, BEE, spin out companies
