Education System in Kosovo
Formal education Non formal education Both, formal and non informal education are under responsibility of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Non-formal education as it relates to adult skills training for employment is largely the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD), Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MLSW) and Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports (MYCS).

Agriculture schools in Kosovo Six agricultural schools in Kosovo (Prishtina, Peja, Gjilan, Ferizaj, Vushtrri and Lipjan. Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary
The Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary is the only Higher education and Research Institution in the field of Agriculture in Kosovo. Faculty of Agriculture began work on 1 October 1974 and initially had two sections: Section of Plant Production and Livestock Section. However, because of the great need from 1975 this faculty continued only with the General Agronomy. In the General Agronomy 14 generations were educated, while the academic year 1988/89 studies were conducted in the fields of: Field crop, Pomology-Viticulture and Livestock

Mission The Mission of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary is to create professionals - experts (agronomists, agroeconomists, food technologist, crop protection specialists and veterinarians) with high qualification, able to meet the requirements of the agriculture and veterinary medicine challenges of the 21st century.

Organization of Higher Education in Kosovo
Higher education is organized, as following: First level – three (3) to four (4) years of studies by which the student reaches 180, respectively 240 /ECTS/, and obtains Bachelor Diploma. Second level – one (1) to two (2) years of studies after completion of the first level by which the students reaches 60, respectively 120/ECTS/ and the student obtains Master Diploma. Third level – program of doctorate studies with academic and independent research scientific character.

Study Programs The Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary offers these study programs: - Plant Production (Bsc), - Business Management in Zootechny (Bsc and Msc), - Agroeconomy (Bsc and Msc), - Plant Protection (Msc), - Pomology –Viticulture (Msc), - Field crop and Vegetables (Msc), - Veterinary Medicine, - Biotechnology and Food Technology (Bsc).

Staff and premises At the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary there are engaged: 47 professors, one lecturer and 9 assistants on regular basis and 43 teachers engaged from other faculties within UP. The number of students in Total is about 2500, while just this year we have enrolled 700 students in all study programs.

Curricula and the relationship between theoretical and practical part of study
The curricula and programs of the study have been Accredited by the Kosovo Agency for Accreditation since 2009 depending from the study programs. The curricula has been drafted based on the models taken from the Hohenheim University, Germany; Boku University , Austria and Faculty of Veterinary Science, Budapest, Hungary. The relationship between theoretical and practical study is 50% to 50% in almost all subjects.

Lifelong Learning Lifelong Learning is an educational process throughout the life of a human being, which is based on changing needs to obtain knowledge, skills and experience, to improve or change qualification according to the labour market demands, personal interests and needs. In the era of rapidly developing science, technological achievements and high technologies, knowledge and skills acquired through formal education become out-of- date no sooner than learnt.

Lifelong Learning (LLL)
Life-long learning - all general education, vocational education and training, non-formal education and informal learning undertaken throughout life, resulting in an improvement in knowledge, skills and competences within a personal, social and/or employment. Before the last war there was nothing with regard to Lifelong Learning. After the war, especially by the year of 2011 there were some initiatives on LLL from the MEST and other relevant stakeholders (DANIDA, OSCE, USAID, different local and international NGO-s).

Cooperation The Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary has a good cooperation with: Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD), Municipality Units in charge for Agriculture and Veterinary, Private Sector (farms and processing companies), Other interesting parties.
