How Water Has Shaped Our Earth Jessica Jarrett

Science Fourth grade You will explore this PowerPoint and read information about how our planet has been shaped by water. Also you will answer some questions concerning this information. The purpose of this PowerPoint is to display new information in a more engaging way. To allow you as students to gain insight of information about the topic from internet sources. GLE 0407.2.1 Analyze the effects of changes in the environment on the stability of an ecosystem

What is Erosion Erosion is the process of Earth changing its shape due to the environment like water, wind, and ice. Also referred to as the movement of soil and rock. This PowerPoint will mostly deal with the process of water shaping our Earth When it rains, water runs downward from the highest place in an area to the lowest. On its journey to the bottom the water collects minerals and small rocks to bring with it. After this process takes place several times it can form rivers and streams. This process can take thousands of years to reshape the Earth and is called weathering. Visit this two websites for a clear understanding on how erosion works. http://teacher.scholastic.com/dirt/erosion/whateros.htm http://www.onegeology.org/extra/kids/earthProcesses/home.html

Erosion Erosion is a natural process When ocean waves hit the land again and again over time it wears down the earth that creates cliffs. A landslide is an example of erosion taking place. When the soil is flooded with water due to rainfall and is not supported by large rocks or roots from trees the soil when run off causing the landslide to happen.

Example of Erosion

Question 1 What is the process when water picks up sand, rock, and minerals to carry with it to another place? Weathering Landslide Erosion

Correct answer Great Job!!!

Question 2 What is Erosion? Glacier movement water flow The movement of rock and soil

correct

Question 3 Is Erosion a natural process? No man created it Both man and the environment play a part in the creation of erosion Both man and the environment play a part in the creation of erosion Yes it happens naturally

Correct!! Great Job!!!!!!

Summary Like stated before Erosion can occur by wind as well. How ever water was our main focus through out this PowerPoint. Again weathering is a part of erosion. A famous example of erosion is the Grand Canyon where many people travel to see this glorious carving of the Earth’s surface.
