Dulwich College Beijing Two-year course in Years 12 and 13 leading to externally assessed examinations with coursework (IA) All students aim to complete the full Diploma at Dulwich

6 subjects Students must study three subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard Level Breadth and Depth

In addition to the 6 subjects students also need to: –do a course in Theory of Knowledge (TOK) –produce an ‘Extended Essay’ of 4000 words on a research topic of their choice. –involve themselves in CAS (Creativity, Action and Service)

Theory Of Knowledge TOK investigates different ways of knowing and evaluates their value

All knowledge claims should be open to rational criticism. On what grounds and to what extent would you agree with this assertion? We see and understand things not as they are but as we are. Discuss this claim in relation to at least two ways of knowing. To what extent is truth different in mathematics, the arts and ethics?

CAS Creativity, action and service. Gives students the opportunity to take part in a variety of new activities and develop leadership and team work skills. These activities will be real tasks with real consequences. Students will reflect on these tasks and the outcomes.

CAS activities include- A residential stay working in an orphanage A music programme at the Guang Ai orphanage Let’s speak English Taekwondo Learning and teaching music/ languages Cooking course Story sacks

The Extended Essay The extended essay is a 4,000 word research assignment based on a narrow topic chosen by the student. An extended essay title: How are the distribution and growth of lichens affected by sulfur dioxide and ozone levels in the atmosphere?

Assessment Each of the six IB subjects are graded on a scale of 1 to 7. The Extended Essay and TOK offer 3 bonus points. This makes a potential total of 45 points. Students need to get 24 points in order to pass.

1)I love writing articles for the school magazine especially on issues related to people and society. I will study in the UK but I am interested in China. 2)I enjoy CAS, especially in issues related to health. I would love to work in Africa. I am interested in development.

What subjects should I study? 3) I have no idea what I want to study. I am sociable and I like both giving presentations and interacting with people. I like reading but not that much. I can speak Chinese and Spanish, but also want to learn another language. I enjoy MUN.

Making choices - Dates Initial choice – Return the options form to the form tutor by Friday 14 th (end of this week). Confirmed or Changed choices made by 21 st March. Yr 11 Parents evening 18 th March may give you a final chance to talk to your teachers about choices and HL/SL options
