Job Application Vocabulary

1.Position—Job title or responsibility such as manager, clerk, chef, administrative assistant, teacher, etc. 2. Full-time work—usually refers to work more than 32 hours per week 3. Part-time work—usually refers to working less than 32 hours per week 4. Salary—the amount of money a person makes –Can be by hour, week, month, or year

5. Felony—serious crime –Aggravated assault –Burglary –Illegal drug use/sales –Robbery –Murder –Rape 6. Misdemeanor—lesser crime –Petty theft—shoplifting, bicycle theft, stealing “minor” items from a residence –Public intoxication –Trespass –Vandalism –Reckless driving

7. Degree—awarded from a college or university signifying that you completed prescribed course of study 8. Supervisor—person in charge such as a boss or manager 9. Employer—the person or company that you work for 10. Reference—people who know you well enough to recommend you for a job 11. Duty—work that you are suppose to do, your responsibilities

12. Experience—skills and knowledge that you have gotten from your past 13. Marital status—whether you are single, married, divorced or widowed 14. Shift—amount of time you work in a day 15. Social security number—number given to you by the government in order to provide you with services such as unemployment benefits and welfare 16. WPM—words per minute: number of words a person can type in a minute
