THE HOLY SPIRIT AND OUR REVIVAL
2
Does the Bible teach that there is a Holy Spirit? Does the Bible teach that we should have a relationship with Him? What type of relationship should we have?
3
I. WE ARE TO SUBMIT OURSELVES TO THE SPIRIT’S LEADERSHIP.
4
Ephesians 5:18-“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”
5
7 results of being filled with Spirit : 1)adoring and worshipping God 2)being thankful at all times under all circumstances
6
3)being a submissive person 4)being empowered for service and witness 5)being equipped for every emergency, including persecution, suffering and sacrifice
7
6)being able to withstand satanic opposition 7)being Christlike (John Stott)
8
Quenching the Spirit has to do with how our disobedience affects us. Grieving the Spirit has to do with how our disobedience affects Him.
9
II. WE RUIN OUR LIVES WHEN WE DON’T SUBMIT.
10
●Do not quench the Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:11-22- “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. Now we ask you, brothers, to
11
respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with
12
each other. And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for
13
wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in
14
Christ Jesus. Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.”
15
●Do not grieve the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:30- “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
16
Ephesians 4 has examples of what grieves the Spirit: ►living like pagans-17-19 ► yielding to our sin nature-22-24 ► lying-25
17
► anger-26-27 ► stealing-28 ► cursing-29 ► bitterness- 31 ► being unforgiving-32 ► sexual immorality-35
18
III. THE POWER HAS DEPARTED.
19
Zechariah 4:6-“ So he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty.”
20
We have many God sized problems in America today! Only a God sized power can help.
