1 Solving One-Step Equations
Solving One-Step Equations - Sept. 15, 2010 Solving One-Step Equations SEI.3.AC.1SLE 1: Solve, with and without appropriate technology, multi-step equations and inequalities with rational coefficients numerically, algebraically and graphically Students will be able to solve one- step equations.

2 Rules for Solving Equations
We need to always remember that an equation is like a balance scale. Whatever we do to one side of the equal sign, we must do to the other side. x = 5 x = 3 – 2 = – 2 FHS Equations and Inequalities

3 Rules for Solving Equations
We can add, subtract, multiply, or divide both sides of the equal sign by the same number. We want to perform the opposite operation from the one shown in the problem. The opposite of adding is The opposite of subtracting is The opposite of multiplying is And the opposite of dividing is subtracting adding dividing multiplying FHS Equations and Inequalities

4 Equations and Inequalities
Solving Equations Here are some examples: x + 4 = 5 – 4 = – 4 x = 1 x – 2 = 3 + 2 = +2 x = 5 3x = 15 x = 5 FHS Equations and Inequalities
