Rounding Whole Numbers Remember the 4 steps
Underline the digit in the place to be rounded. STEP 2: Look at the digit to the right of the underlined digit STEP 3: If the digit is five or above… give it a shove (add 1 to the underlined digit) STEP 4: Replace all digits after the underlined digit with zeros

Underline the digit in the place to be rounded. STEP 2: Look at the digit to the right of the underlined digit STEP 3: If the digit is five or above… give it a shove (add 1 to the underlined digit) STEP 4: Drop the digit after the underlined digit

Let’s try one… Mrs. Bogusch has a pair of Beats headphones. She told the students she would sell it to them for $147 rounded to the nearest ten. How much would you pay to own the Beats? ANSWER: $150

How about this one… Mrs. Kilgallon has a nice gently used Copper Mini Car. She told the students she would sell it to them for $13,349 rounded to the nearest hundred. How much would you pay to own the car? ANSWER: $13,300

How about this one… Mrs. Cassner has a rainbow loom. She told the students she would sell it to them for $17.89 rounded to the nearest tenth. How much would you pay to own the loom? ANSWER: $17.90
