Current Areas of Focus

User Acceptance Test (UAT) Recruitment and Admissions acceptance test scheduled for May 15 th Advancement acceptance test scheduled for July 17 th Focus will be on: Testing business processes Verifying conversion of legacy data Verifying interfaces, modifications, and reports

Grants.gov update Kevin Canada

OGCA Federal Grants Processing New Federal requirements dictate that funding requests to agencies must be electronically delivered Grants.gov is the location for posting Registration with Grants.gov “Commons” by investigator is required Submissions must be “packaged” using commercial product (PureEdge), available at no charge, either as a download (Windows) or through a publicly accessible Citrix server (non-Windows) Grants.gov will not support digital signatures on submitted items. These must be managed at the institutional level, and may be audited

UAB OGCA Adapts to Grants.gov Active Grants.gov training effort underway Emphasizing the changes for both how investigators prepare applications and how they submit them Major issues: Applications must be consistent and completed strictly according to instructions; NIH submissions for example, are assessed electronically, and rules are inflexible Investigators must adapt to new timetables, meaning that they must leave themselves 10-14 days for submissions to be approved by OGCA (no more “get it to FedEx by 8!”) Submission process can be very tedious, sometimes; first round at other institutions to 8 attempts and close to 16 days See http://www.uab.edu/ogca/grants.gov/ to view more informationhttp://www.uab.edu/ogca/grants.gov/

UAB IT adapts to Grants.gov Customer Services Orienting to support PureEdge desktop deployment Developed documentation and articles on how to install Assisting OGCA with Citrix use

UAB IT adapts to Grants.gov TUCC Developing an enhanced “DropBox” to support submissions to OGCA Features: Web-based document submission and tracking “Delegates” to allow multi-user document management Notifications to PIs and OGCA for submissions, resubmissions and final reviews To go live in May

Report on Spam Blocking Landy Manderson

Report on Spam Blocking As scheduled, spamblocking enabled by default for all users on March 26 (except those who opted out). Since April 1st: 3.9 million incoming e-mails which exceeded the threshold were discarded outright. 4.5 million messages not delivered to individual recipients. 5 out of 8 incoming messages discarded. Spam Reduction Team will continue to investigate mechanisms to further reduce junk mail, and bring proposals forward for review and comment.

BlazerID and e-mail Landy Manderson

BlazerID and e-mail E-mail address listed in Electronic Phonebook is used for @uab.edu forwarding. Also used for: Reports, notices, alerts from Adminsystems (Oracle HR/Finance, Effort Reporting, Student System, Research) Class e-mail service Notifications about service improvements and interruptions Departmental, School-wide, Campus-wide announcements eReporter (coming in June) Many services require use of e-mail to its users in order to function effectively. Most services therefore disallow access by users who do not have an e-mail address listed in the Phonebook. This is not a new requirement! Discussing it today because of recent questions. New BlazerID cannot be created without setting up a central Exchange mailbox, or specifying a legitimate forwarding address. However, if forwarding address later comes back as no longer valid, it is removed from the Phonebook – which disables most access for the BlazerID. Access can be re-established by requesting central Exchange mailbox, or setting new forwarding address.
