Bell Ringer [3 Minutes] State the 3 points of the Cell Theory
Identify ONE difference between a Prokaryotic cell and a Eukaryotic cell
2
MYP Biology: Cell Organelles
3
What are the parts of Eukaryotic cells?
Eukaryotic cells contain specialized structures called Organelles, which each perform a specific function within the cell.
4
Organelles in ALL Eukaryotic cells
Nucleus: Control center of cell, where DNA is stored
5
Organelles in ALL Eukaryotic cells
Ribosomes: Make proteins
6
Organelles in ALL Eukaryotic cells
Mitochondria: Produces energy the cell can use
7
Organelles in ALL Eukaryotic cells
Endoplasmic Reticulum: Transports molecules around cell
8
Organelles in ALL Eukaryotic cells
Golgi Apparatus Packages proteins into vesicles (tiny sacs)
9
Organelles only in Eukaryotic Animal cells
Lysosome Digests old cell parts with enzymes and acid
10
Organelles only in Eukaryotic Plant cells
Cell Wall Rigid outer layer that provides structure/ support
11
Organelles only in Eukaryotic Plant cells
Chloroplast Uses light energy to produce food (sugar) for plant cells [Photosynthesis]
12
Organelles only in Eukaryotic Plant cells
Central Vacuole Large sac that stores water and food
13
Animal or Plant Cell?
14
Animal or Plant Cell?

Cells demonstrate Emergent Properties
An Emergent Property is a property that ‘emerges’ or results from many smaller parts working together as part of a larger system
