Visualisation & Graphics Research Ebad Banissi Visualisation & Graphics Research Unit Department of Informatics London South Bank University VGRU - Mission statement This Research Unit focuses on research and practices within visualisation and graphics. Its activities are oriented towards interdisciplinary methods and research conducted among various disciplines, computing, medicine, engineering, media, commerce as well as humanities. It is active in the following areas: information visualisation, data visualisation, virtual environment, fundamentals of graphics and visualisation, modelling, computer animation, medical imaging, visualisation in art and humanities, educational aspects of graphics and visualisation. Members: VGRU has 7 members (3 academic staff, 4 PhD Students): Academic staff: Prof. Ebad Banissi (coordinator) Dr Frank Devai Dr Jon M. Selig Research students: Ahmad Aljamali; Sourav Dalal; Md Mizanur Rahman; Zhou Hong and Hui Li Research Project: Funded Projects: During 2004-2008: VGRU members have been involved in 7 KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) projects with 3 directly related to Visualisation and Graphics: –GMJ Design Ltd. –Foley Cooke Associates –Telnet Plc PhD Research Projects: –Fundamental Computer Graphics Research: Incremental Algorithm and antialiasing research –Application Research: Geometric Patterns, City model –Graphics & Visualisation Projects –Robotic project Events: IV-Forum: –Information Visualisation –Geometric Modelling and Imaging –Medical Visualisation –Visualisation CGIV – Forum –Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation DART: Online - Digital Art Gallery 3D Graphics & visualisation Geographical Information Systems (GIS) This project is to create a cutting edge desktop/online system for building planning. The application will visualise in 3d new design proposals from any angle in real time. It will allow designs to be updated and reviewed rapidly by developers, planners, rights of light surveyors, historic building specialists, and related professionals revolutionising the way in which architectural designs are considered, dramatically speeding up and improving the early design and planning processes. Key research enabling this are: Capturing 3D raw data using digital aerial photographs / videos Filtering large scale data using build graphical model from this build relational spatial database for postcode 3D web presence Application: –Property industry –3D gaming industry –3D digital map provider –Environmental planning organization –Metropolitan Police –Insurance company Projects: –GMJ Design Ltd. –Foley Cooke Associates Events: –International Conference Visualisation in Built and Rural Environments –GeoAnalytics Forensic / Survillance Digital Imaging This project is to establish a frame work for possible future standards in CCTV imaging used in overt public domain based on the research trend such as: Optimal CCTV – number of camera requirement without compromising the standard. Frame rate – temporal attributes Vs. spatial and tonal resolution. Range vs. resolution constraint. Image enhancement: Multiple video frame Non-uniform interpolation using local shift vector Brightness and colour correction Zoom and rotate Field alignment Filters Projects: –Telnet Plc Events: –Cgiv08 – FDI - Forensic Digital Imaging For additional information please contact:: Ebad. This research is fundamental to designing graphics tools and image processing software but also graphics hardware. The following are: Incremental Drawing algorithm –Single-, double-, …n-level stepping –Square-, diagonal-move –Parametric or non-parametric approach –Rendering General Parametric Conic Curves by using Taylor Series Approximation Anti-aliased curve rendering –General Rendering and Anti-aliasing Algorithms for Conic Sections Tonal, Spatial and temporal interchange- ability for digital imaging
