The Purpose of this course is the following: To improve your speaking, pronunciation and listening skills To develop expertise and awareness of techniques and strategies that will help you communicate more effectively To communicate better in academic settings and every day situations

To understand short academic lectures and practice note- taking skills To improve listening skills in the following ways: listen for the main idea, find specific information to answer questions and make inferences Practice using English in academic and social situations Learn communication strategies, such as summarizing, pausing, transitioning, asking for clarification and more. Learn how to monitor and fix your own pronunciation errors Become familiar with idiomatic and academic vocabulary in English.

Tests & Quizzes: 1 midterm, 1 final exam and 6 to 8 quizzes. Homework: 6-8 Pronunciation Exercises and Listening Assignments Speeches 3 Speeches Discussion Groups 4-5 In-class and outside of class discussions Tests & Quizzes: 1 midterm, 1 final exam and 6 to 8 quizzes.
