One of the most preventable shop injuries When eyes get damaged, they don’t heal very quickly or easily, if at all Common injuries: Dust or other materials in the eye Wood or metal chips in the eye

May be from hand tools or power tools Often result from improper tool usage or having hands, etc. in the wrong place Range from minor nicks to major cuts Guards are designed to prevent injuries

Most often the result of a cluttered workplace Too much material left laying on the ground Extension cords across areas where people frequently move Prevented by cleaning area up as you work

All power tools should have properly insulated & grounded cords Make sure cords are out of the way when cutting and/or working Repair any cords that show damage Do not work on live wires

Fires can start from improper use of equipment, overloading a circuit, or improperly disposing of certain materials Always know where fire extinguishers are Burns can result from actual fires, or just overheated equipment

In the Hillsboro High School Ag Shop, you are not only responsible for your safety, but also the safety of everyone around you!

Wear the appropriate shop attire, including safety glasses Realize that accidents can, and do happen, and do your part to reduce their potential Follow all safety guidelines when using any tool, hand or power

Maintain the cleanliness of the area you are working in Pay attention to where others are and what they are doing THINK BEFORE YOU ACT!
