Match the formula to the correct method A)Finding a midpoint B)Distance between 2 points C)Gradient between 2 points D)Equation of a line E)Perpendicular lines F)Parallel lines G) Intersecting lines
2
1. Cut 4 lengths of stick (any size)
3
2. Place a wine-gum (same colour) at the centre of each stick
4
3. Place a wine-gum (different colour) at the end of each stick
5
4. Join the sticks together to create a 4- sided shape called a _____________ You may need to readjust the centre wine-gums to ensure they stay in the middle
6
5. Carefully draw your shape onto the sheet of A3 paper (use about ¼ sheet)
7
6. Look closely, what do you notice? Hint: look at the different colours On the A3 paper, write down everything that you notice
8
7. What happens when you join the centre wine-gums together? Check with another group – do they have something similar? Parallelogram
9
8. Next Steps – Proving/Generalisation Does this always work, regardless of length of initial shape? How could we prove this? On the graph paper draw a grid from 0 – 10, in both x and y directions In this region, choose any 4 points and draw the resulting quadrilateral Using the appropriate skills, find the midpoints of each side, and connect – show all your working on the A3 paper Using known properties of quadrilaterals, can you then prove that the resulting shape is a parallelogram How you could prove this for any 4 points. Achieved/ Merit Excellence

What have we learnt today? Write down on your A3 sheet, a quick summary of what you have learnt from today’s lesson. Ensure your names on the sheet!
