37 Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Solutions Introduction
Multipoint Meeting = Conference Used to connect if there are more than 2 participants Most often just video terminals (endpoints) Sometimes also in other use cases (e.g. recording, interoperability) Transcoding (MCU’s) vs. Switching (CTMS) TIP 37 37

38 Transcoding Specialized video hardware, allowing the incoming video to be decoded and then re-encoded before being sent on. The TelePresence Server, MXE and MCU all use transcoding architectures Takes video streams from each endpoint and then processes them by scaling and compositing the video together into a single stream which is sent to the endpoints. Considerations Flexible, see what you want High quality, everyone receives the best resolution they can no matter who else joins Up to 1080p More expensive than a switching solution Small amount of latency introduced due to video processing – unnoticeable to end user An MCU is not optimised for calls to multi screen systems (TIP)

39 Continous Presence Layouts
Cisco TelePresence Multipoint Solutions MCU - What Do You See? Continous Presence Layouts

40 Switching As a comparison to the MCU it is worth considering how CTMS works on what it does differently. CTMS uses switching to achieve a similar goal allow multiple participants to be part of the same video meeting. This technique relies on every participant sending and receiving the same video codec and resolution so that no processing of the video has to be done, it can just be duplicated and sent on to the other participants. Low latency Possible to cascade with no degradation in experience Up to 1080p Lower cost than MCU Limits everyone to the same resolution Limited number of participants on the screen

41 Switching Screens - What Do You See?
This is the view we are familiar with on a CTS system, each screen displays a single segment. We should be seeing the current speaker and some of the previous speakers if we use a multi screen system.

55 H.323 Gatekeeper & SIP Proxy/Registrar
TAA Call Control Level 1 H.323 Gatekeeper & SIP Proxy/Registrar Registration & CAC Registration Directory lookup Number translation Authentication Routing Neighbor VCSs IP network 3rd party devices - Cisco v4.1 to V6.1 - Microsoft OCS - Nortel - Other PBX mfrs - Other IP PBX mfrs ISDN / PSTN Enum DNS Internet Registration and call routing. One of the key functions of the VCS is the routing of calls. Each endpoint registers to the VCS enabling any endpoint to call any other endpoint using an alias rather than remembering an IP address. Calls can be made to endpoints registered to the same VCS, to other connected VCSs in company’s IP network, out to other IP networks and other network types such as ISDN. Both the ability to register an endpoint and the ability to make calls are controlled by the VCS. © TANDBERG Inc. Publish date: 28/06/2010

56 Key Differentiator: Interworking
TAA Call Control Level 1 Key Differentiator: Interworking SIP If H.323id’s are in URI format, just turn on Interworking In order for a SIP endpoint to call a H.323 endpoint and visa versa, H.323 usernames need to be in a URI format. H.323 © TANDBERG Inc. Publish date: 28/06/2010

57 Interworking H.323 to SIP & IPv4 to IPv6
Newer products are moving towards SIP, a lot of existing products are still H.323 VCS connects the two together Enable Interworking Traversal license will be consumed VCS Control base configuration ships with 100 Traversal licenses VCS Configuration > Protocols > Interworking On, Off or Registered Only At each routing priority, VCS tries to route the call using the incoming protocol, then attempts the other protocol Minimizes the number of interworking operations Handling E.164/DN and URI dialing Search rules using pattern matches and transforms

58 VCS Interworking Why media must traverse the VCS
RFC 3264 – Offer/Answer Model with Session Description Protocol Allows dynamic assignment of payload types above 96 CUCM Model Fixed media type per codec, symmetric payload type (send with the same payload type as requested) Send h payload type (106) SIP SIP RTP – (106) Send h payload type (121) RTP – (121) Send h payload type 106 CUCM SIP SIP RTP – (106) Send h.264 – payload type 121 RTP – (106) X Signaling Media

59 X VCS Interworking Why media must traverse the VCS
SIP vs. H.323 signaling SIP – “This is what I can receive.” H.323 – “This is what I am going to send.” Send h.264 (106) Sending h.264 (121) SIP H.323 X SIP Send h.264 (106) Sending h.264 (121) H.323 RTP (106) RTP (121) Send h.264 (121) Sending h.264 (106) RTP (121) RTP (106) Signaling Media

61 VCS Firewall traversal … simple

63 VCS Call Routing Why Regular Expressions (RegEx)?
A standard notation (POSIX), used in Unix and Linux editors Provide a concise and flexible means for matching and transforming strings Used simply, it is simple, but powerful One of the techniques available in VCS for matching calls in zones POSIX (pronounced /ˈpɒzɪks/ POZ-iks) or "Portable Operating System Interface [for Unix]” is the name of a family of related standards specified by the IEEE to define the application programming interface (API), along with shell and utilities interfaces for software compatible with variants of the Unix operating system, although the standard can apply to any operating system. 63

64 VCS Cluster Capacities
TAA Call Control Level 1 VCS Cluster Capacities 6 VCS’s per cluster maximum 1000 External Zones 10,000 Registrations N+2 Redundancy 2000 concurrent calls The ability to cluster VCSs together provides redundancy in the network. A VCS cluster behaves like a single VCS when it is in fact up to 6. A cluster supports up to 4 times the number of registrations and calls than a single VCS. SIP/H.323 Interworking 400 concurrent traversal calls Each member is a fully active VCS. N+2 means you can lose up to 2 VCS’s and still maintain full functionality © TANDBERG Inc. 66 Cisco TelePresence Video ATP Express Level Infrastructure Portfolio
Conferencing Management Call & Session Control MCU 4200 Series MCU 4500 Series TelePresence Management Suite VCS Control VCS Expressway We have leadership products in every category. You can see the potential of the combined Cisco and Tandberg portfolio in several areas: A combined set of the right set of products and solutions to create the kinds of experiences and environments appropriate to the wide variety of business needs that our customer have. A comprehensive set of services for worldwide deployment and scalability The ability to deliver a variety of compelling options and solutions for interoperability across the products, across vendors, across the industry. And with intercompany, the ability to scale across organizations securely and globally. What that means, is that as you think about a possible integration of the two companies is that we have a very complementary portfolio and it means that we keep a consistent offering across the board. Meanwhile, we apply all the end-user attractiveness of the TelePresence infrastructure to the entire endpoint line: One button to push, Auto collaboration tools, Multipoint, Interoperability across the products, across vendors, across the industry, Secure and scalable Intercompany With our drive to and commitment for interoperability, we will also be growing the overall opportunities for other vendors, partners and suppliers, both existing companies and new entrants who will further drive innovation. NOTE: When you present this slide, customer will likely ask for specific roadmap direction. You must tell the customer that legally we can not talk about the product roadmap before close. We have not made any decisions on post-close product roadmaps, and will not communicate any decisions made during the integration process until after close. But you should bridge to the fact that our focus will be next generation roadmaps, that our TelePresence vision encompasses industry-wide interoperability, intercompany, end to end management, etc. 66 66 66 66

71 TMS Server Architecture
Functionality through combination of several elements TMS Web Server The web server used by TMS is Microsoft’s Internet Information Server (IIS). This provides an interactive interface for users and external systems to interact with TMS TMS Windows Services TMS has a set of Windows services running on the server in the background that handles all background tasks TMS Data Base The database engine used by TMS is a Microsoft SQL Server. The database stores most information used by TMS and is designed to be used simultaneously by multiple agents
