9 How Do You Identify A Hybrid? Orange High Voltage Cables
10
10 High Voltage Components Motor/Generator Always located between engine flywheel and transmission
11
11 High Voltage Components Inverter located on left side on frame rail
12
12 High Voltage Components Power Electronics Carrier - Standard location on left side on frame rail Can be mounted on body equipment
13
13 High Voltage Components DC/DC Converter (e-PTO) - Located on left side on frame rail
14
14 Emergency Procedure Preferred Option – Turn off ignition key –High-voltage batteries still alive but isolated in PEC Option 2 – Disconnect low voltage 12V batteries –High-voltage batteries still alive but isolated in PEC Option 3 – Push in “Service Switch” on PEC –Shuts down engine –High-voltage batteries still alive but isolated in PEC Shutdown After the vehicle is disabled, power is maintained up to 5 minutes in the high-voltage electrical system.
15
15 Emergency Procedure Information Emergency procedures –Accident or extrication –Fire –Submerged vehicle –Spill –Contact information –First aid –General do’s and don’ts
16
16 Safety Topics Recovery/recycling of lithium ion batteries Built in safety features Towing or jumpstarting
17
17 Additional Topics Recovery/recycling of Lithium Ion batteries –You must be trained and registered to ship the batteries. Built in Safety Features –PEC Battery has an ”inertia” switch built in which will disconnect the PEC battery in case of sudden impact. Towing or Jumpstarting
18
18 Lithium Ion Battery – Class 9 -- Miscellaneous Hazardous Material HMR as Class 9 material –Material that presents a hazard during transportation but which does not meet the definition of any other hazard class. 49 CFR §173.140 - Class 9 –Material includes any material which has an anesthetic, noxious, or other similar property which could cause extreme annoyance or discomfort to a flight crew member so as to prevent the correct performance of assigned duties; or –Any material that meets the HMR definition for elevated temperature materials, a hazardous substance, or a marine pollutant.
19
19 Emergency Contact Information CHEMTREC –North America: 800-424-9300 Provide the following information: –Company: Eaton Corporation –Company Code: C371
20
20 Do’s Always assume vehicle is “live.” Always perform one of three Emergency Shutdown Procedures. Before working on the vehicle, allow vehicle to sit for 5 minutes.
21
21 Don’ts Never work on the vehicle if Emergency Shutdown Procedures are not complete. Never work on vehicle if the vehicle hasn’t set for five minutes. Never cut orange high-voltage cables. Never cut into or open –Inverter –PEC –DC/DC Converter
