2 Early Years Born near Busseto in the region of Emilia- Romagna in 1813 to a family of innkeepers. Graduated with honors from local gymnasium in 1827 Befriended Antonio Barezzi (Italian merchant) who helped him financially.

3 Growing up Verdi studied privately in Milan from 1832-1835 than returned to Busseto and was appointed music director until 1839.
