How much do MTs earn? Median hourly earnings of $13.64 in May 2004. Lowest 10% earned less than $9.67; highest 10% earned more than $19.11. (Bureau of Labor Statistics) Advance for HIM Magazine Salary Survey for 2006 showed the average MT made just over $25,000 per year (more if credentialed).

What is the job outlook for MTs? “Employment of medical transcriptionists is projected to grow faster than average…through 2014.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics) 90% of employers surveyed expect to have increasing staffing needs over the next several years. (MTIA Workforce Survey, Nov. 06) According to recent estimates: 25,000 jobs are currently available

Registered Apprenticeship What is it? Medical Transcription has been classified by the Department of Labor (DOL) as an “apprenticeable” occupation, which means employers can partner with educational Institutions through the DOL-approved National Apprenticeship Program in order to Provide new graduates with a 2-year Apprenticeship experience that helps to bridge the gap between graduation and viability in the profession.

MTIA Registered Apprenticeship Requirements to participate: ◦Attend an approved school ◦Earn the RMT ◦Enter into Apprenticeship ◦Must be 18 years old ◦Must be high school graduate (or GED) ◦Must work 40 hours per week
