3. New Vocabulary Hydrological Cycle or H2O Cycle- Other names for the Water Cycle. Evaporation- The process of a liquid changing into a gas. Condensation- The process of a gas changing into a liquid. Precipitation- The process of condensed liquid falling to earth in the form of rain, snow, hail, or sleet. Plant Transpiration- The process of evaporation of liquid from plants into the atmosphere. Runoff- Water that travels downward over land to fill in bodies of water such as: lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans.

5. Evaporation In the Water Cycle, Evaporation occurs when energy from the sun, called solar radiation, heats up water from oceans, seas, and lakes. The water from the oceans, seas, and lakes changes from a liquid to a gas and travels up into the atmosphere.
