Fermat’s life Pierre de Fermat was born in Beaumont-de-Lomagne, which is in France. He died at 12 Jan 1665 in Castres, which is also in France. Pierre Fermat's father was a wealthy leather merchant and second consul of Beaumont- de- Lomagne. Pierre had a brother and two sisters and was brought up in the town of his birth. The school he received education was at the local Franciscan monastery. He attended the University of Toulouse before moving to Bordeaux in the second half of the 1620’s In Bordeaux he began his first serious mathematical researches and in 1629 he gave a copy of his restoration of Apolloniu’s plane loci to one of the mathematics there

His ideas He proved that the area of a right triangle must not be the area of the square In symbols this means there do not exist integers x,y,z with x 2 +y 2 =z 2 such that xy/2 is a square From this it is easy to deduce the n=4 case of Fermat ’ s theorem Pierre de Fermat wrote about it in 1637 inside his copy of a book named Arithmetica. He wrote in the margin of the book: "I have a proof of this theorem, but there is not enough space in this edge." We can see that he already have a big proof of his last theorem.

Who proved it The proof was completed in 1993 by Andrew Wiles. He is a British mathematician. The life of him would be talked about in the next slide. He gave a series of lectures at Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge university college At his final and last lecture, Andrew announced his proof of Fermat ’ s last theorem.

Andrew Wiles Andrew Wiles devoted much of his time to prove Fermat's Last Theorem. It was a theory that nobody a able to proof throughout the 300 years. A lot of the best minds worked on it and Andrew wiles was the one and only one that completed his research before dying or unable to work on it.

The proof This proof, published by Andrew Wiles, was a proof by association in that, by proving another conjecture. The proof was extremely long and complex. So it is very hard to explain it. Lets see it in the internet link. It explains when N=4 N=3 and N=2 works in circumstances.

Conclusion As we can see, the caases are ver detailed and the equations are very hard. The theorem itself is already a 100 pages work. It is very hard to explain it in a presentation but I have tried my best.
