6 Risk Factors The scheme includes a number of risk factors as set out below, this is not an extensive list and does not explain all risks in investment in the scheme. Members are advised to read the Scheme Brochure together with the Statement Of Investment Principals and the FAQs before making a decision whether or not to become Member. The risk include the following: The value of investments can fall as well as rise and is not guaranteed Your existing provider may apply a penalty to your existing pension plan if it is transferred Past performance must not be viewed as an indication of future performance The Scheme will invest a proportion of the total Scheme funds in alternative investments, which are viewed by some as high risk investment and of liquid nature than some other asset classes. Other Considerations Inflation/Deflation is an economic risk that can have negative effect on the value of any investment The regulatory environment for pensions is evolving and changes may adversely affect the Scheme Any changes to the taxation environment or the treatment of pensions may affect investment returns to Members Controls and Mitigation Here at Prosperity we endeavour to mitigate as many of the risks as is possible. Our Trustee aims to be an engaged and responsible long-term investor in the assets and markets. Concentration/Correlation diversify investments across and within asset classes, to avoid over-exposure to any one market. Monitor Scheme assets. Currency Monitor currency exposure. Ensure that Schemes overseas investments are diversified across currencies. Liquidity Regularly review and adjust the amount of cash held to pay benefits to minimise the impact of cash flow on investment policy. The Trustee believes the Scheme’s long-term investment horizon justifies a degree of liquidity risk where such a risk is rewarded and a proportion of the Scheme’s assets are invested in less liquid assets. Matching We give consideration to the specific characteristics of the Scheme’s liabilities when setting the investment strategy. Regularly review progress of the Scheme’s investments relative to its liabilities. Operational Monitor the Scheme’s investment back office and the ability of the custodian holding the Scheme assets to settle trades on time and to provide secure custody. Regulatory Risk Monitor regulatory changes.
