THE GRAND CANYON BECAME A NATIONAL PARK IN 1919 IN ORDER TO GIVE IT THE BEST PROTECTION WE (AS A NATION) HAVE TO OFFER.

SINCE SCIENTISTS BELIEVE THAT EARTH USED TO BE COVERED IN WATER, THEY ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE GRAND CANYON WAS FORMED BY EROSION, ONCE THE WATER WAS GONE.

THE GRAND CANYON CONTAINS ROCKS SUCH AS KAIBAB LIMESTONE, TOROWEAP FORMATION, COCONINO SANDSTONE, HERMIT SHALE, SUPAI FORMATION, REDWALL LIMESTONE, MUAV LIMESTONE, BRIGHT ANGEL SHALE AND TAPEATS SANDSTONE.

THE GRAND CANYON HAS THE COLORADO RIVER RUNNING THROUGH IT. LOTS OF PEOPLE WHITE-WATER RAFT IN THIS RIVER! LOTS OF FOSSILIZED ROCKS HAVE BEEN FOUND INSIDE THE ROCK IN THE GRAND CANYON.

VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS CREATE MORE SURFACES OF THE GRAND CANYON, AND COLORADO RIVER EROSIONS MAKE THE CANYON DEEPER AND WEAR DOWN ITS WALLS.

MINING COMPANIES CAN ACCIDENTALLY SET OFF CHEMICALS THAT SEEP INTO THE COLORADO RIVER AND WASH UP ON THE ROCKS, WITHERING THEM AWAY AND POLLUTING THE RIVER, KILLING WILDLIFE.

THE HOOVER DAM CREATED THE COLORADO RIVER THAT RUNS THROUGH THE GRAND CANYON.
