1 A Trip to the Zoo Your Task: Plan an excursion to the Zoo By the end of this unit, you will be able to: Read a timetable Calculate duration of time Record time to the minute on an analogue clock and in 12 and 24 hour time on a digital clock. Use a calendar to work out and record important dates.

2 A trip to the Zoo!! You need to take public transport to get there. Just like a school excursion, you cannot depart before 9am and need to be back by 3:15pm. You will need to begin at school! Record the forms of transport you will take including the train line name and/or tram number. Record the times of departure and arrival for each form of transport you will take. Record all departure and arrival times on a digital clock in both 12 hour and 24 hour time as well as on an analogue clock. Record how long each trip will take in hours and minutes. Record how long you will have at the zoo to look at the animals in hours and minutes. Plan the date of your excursion and the dates that notices need to go out, money collected and reminders given.

3 Getting to the ZOO! Bus route 898 stops not far from Cranbourne East Primary School and travels to Cranbourne Station. You will need to allow 15 minutes to walk to the bus stop. To get into the city, you can take the train. From Flinders Street Station, there are two ways to get to the zoo. 1.You can take the train on the Upfield line getting off at Royal park or 2.Take the Tram from Bourke street to Melbourne Zoo on Tram Route 55

4 Task 1 Plan your trip How will you get there and back? Record the form of transport, departure place and time and arrival place and time in a table.

5 Task 2 Record the times For each departure and arrival time, record this in 12 and 24 hour time on a digital clock and on an analogue clock.

6 Task 3 Duration of time Calculate and record how long each trip will take. Record in hours and minutes. Record how long you will have at the zoo.

7 Task 4 Inform your Students Choose a date for your excursion. Record it on a calendar. Notices requesting money need to go out 4 weeks before the excursion. What date will your notices go out? Record it on your calendar. Money needs to be in 1 week before the excursion. When is the money due for your excursion. Record it on your calendar. On the Monday before money is due, a reminder about payments needs to be given at the assembly. Record this on your calendar. Three days before the excursion, you will need to send out a note letting students know what to bring on the excursion. Record the date for this reminder note on your calendar.
