3 Mission Statement ●Teach senior citizens how to effectively utilize their smartphones ●Reduce anxieties of using, or unwillingness to use, a smartphone ●Encourage seniors to become natural smartphone users

6 Representative Tasks Downloading Apps from the App Store ●Extremely complex task for seniors a.Have to know how to search for apps, understand app pages, download b.What's an Apple ID? ●Want to present a contrived challenge and guide senior through solving it

7 Lo-fi Prototype Structure ●Hand-drawn on paper with iPhone-sized printouts ●Dialogs and other small things on smaller pieces of paper to be overlayed ●Imported into POP app

11 Experimental Method ●Who: 50+, little to no experience with smartphone, some given chocolate ●Where: Interviewed at varying places (downtown Palo Alto, hotel lobby, home) using iPad and POP app ●What: Learn how to tap, make a phone call and download an app ●How: Observed levels of understanding, areas of confusion and speed of completion

12 Experimental Results ●Seniors are like small children ●Impatient o Don't want to read everything ●Easily distracted o Icons! ●Forgetful o Can't remember steps
