4 What is the purpose of tutor feedback? Helps you to assess your own learning and reflect on your development Allows you to discuss your learning with your tutors Helps you to understand what is expected of you and what good performance is Gives you the opportunity to progress Provides you with information about your learning Motivates you and encourages you to think positively about your learning Provides information to teachers that can be used to help shape their teaching

5 What does the feedback mean? Assessment & grading criteria gives a description of the characteristics associated with work at different grades. When you have received feedback, use the criteria to understand how you could improve your work next time. 7 How should I respond to tutor feedback? Receiving, reflecting on and applying feedback is essential to personal development in your studies. Highlight key points in the feedback Consider re-writing certain elements of assignments – some tutors may be happy to look at this re-working. Be reflective – think about what the tutor means, why they have made that comments and what you can do differently. Translate your feedback into SMART goals - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely

8 Next steps Clarify any points you didn't understand with the tutor - Don't be afraid to ask! Follow up on any action your tutor recommends Refer to Study Skills handbooks for tips to improve areas of weakness (e.g. Stella Cottrell, Andrew Norton) Apply what you have learnt to your next assessment; keep in mind your feedback and make sure you don't repeat the same mistakes Be proactive – if you are have any difficulties with your studies then seek support
