What is Imperialism?  Empire: A group of nations ruled over by a monarch, emperor, or government  Imperialism: The formation of an Empire based on a relationship of domination and subordination (Inequality)  What is Imperialism’s relationship to Power?  To what extent does Imperialism shape, confirm, and/or redefine notions of “British-ness”?  What are the implications of Imperialism? How do these implications continue to resonate today?

Maps, cartoons, advertisements Why would is it important to develop the tools to analyze these resources The following slide shows a map (“Imperial Federation, Map of the World Showing the Extent of the British Empire”) from 1886. On a piece of paper, write 5 lines (with at least 5 words on each line) making observations of this map (images, words, designs, etc)
