SEVEN SEGMENT DISPLAY By :- Shubham & Sidhant
2
WHAT EXACTLY IT IS …? A seven-segment display (SSD), or seven-segment indicator, is a form of electronic display device used for displaying decimal numerals that is an alternative to the more complex dot- matrix displays.
3
WHAT IT REQUIRES …? Seven-segment displays require -: liquid crystal display (LCD) arrays of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) other light-generating or controlling techniques such as cold cathode gas discharge, vacuum fluorescent, etc can also be used.
4
Concept And Visual Structure A seven segment display, as its name indicates, is composed of seven elements. Individually on or off, they can be combined to produce simplified representations of the Arabic numerals. Often the seven segments are arranged in an oblique (slanted) arrangement, which aids readability. In most applications, the seven segments are of nearly uniform shape and size (usually elongated hexagons, though trapezoids and rectangles can also be used).
5
How it works …? The image on the left is your typical seven segment display with each of the segments labeled with the 1 - 7. To display digits on these displays you turn on some of the LEDs. For example, when you illuminate segments 3 and 5 for example your eye perceives it as looking like the number "1." Light up 2, 3, and 5 and you will see what looks like a "7." Ok, so it isn't rocket science :-)
