If you guessed C, YOU’RE CORRECT! The Underground railroad was a way to transport slaves to freedom through houses during the civil war, when the North was fighting the south for freedom of slaves.

Harriet Tubman Harriet Tubman helped lead slaves along the Underground Railroad, she escorted over 300 slaves to freedom!

Code words People who guided the slaves: “conductors” Safe homes to stay: “stations” People who hid slaves: “Stationmasters” Escaping slaves: “cargo” or “passengers”

Clues to freedom Quilts: There were 10 different quilt patterns each signaling a different action for slaves. Songs: “follow the drinking gourd” was a song slaves sang about following the north star and big dipper to freedom Lamps: when a lamp was hung outside of a house it meant it was safe for slaves to enter.
