If Flash users are looking for content to manipulate, they can find it through a search box from within the Macromedia application, to the Creative Commons content pool. B breakfast image

Or, a simple link from the Flash developer’s web site could point users to new sources of legally usable materials from the Web, or indicate which.fla files are Creative Commons licensed (MATT CAN YOU PUT A CC SEARCH BOX ON HERE AND A CC COLUMN).

For example, it can point users to the Creative Commons record label, Magnatune.com, where all the songs are open to share and remix.

Or, to photo sites like Open Photo, where all the photos are available to use and modify under our licenses.

Or to video collections, like the Prelinger Archives where all the films are in the public domain.

Or, to the Creative Commons Legal Content Search Engine, which leverages RDF, so that creators can search the Web for content to incorporate into their Macromedia creations.

Which will allow Flash users to find, and remix content from a growing pool of Creative Commons licensed material. A A

Flash users can mark their creations with Creative Commons from within Flash when they proceed to ‘Save.’

They can choose the Creative Commons license they want and mark their content accordingly.

Which can signal to the application to embed License RDF information into the HTML output that accompanies the.swf file professor <OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" WIDTH="550" HEIGHT="400" id="professor" ALIGN=""> <EMBED src="professor.swf" quality=high bgcolor=#FFFFFF WIDTH="550" HEIGHT="400" NAME="professor" ALIGN="" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"> This work is licensed under a Creative Commons License. <!-- <rdf:RDF xmlns="http://web.resource.org/cc/" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#"> Professor 2003 An expressive work about a professor who eats breakfast. 18 So the license will be displayed when teh file is published to the Web.

And the Creative Commons search engine can find the file.

Macromedia can also explore ways for.swf and.fla files to be embedded with Creative Commons metadata. For example, search engines like AltaVista, are already able to pull Creative Commons copyright information out of MP3 files. If there were a way to embed license information into.swf files, or.fla files, search engines could do the same. Pulls info out of MP3 ID3 tag

These marked files could be exchanged on the Flash Exchange.

Adobe uses XMP to embed Creative Commons metadata into their files.

Creative Commons can be integrated across the Macromedia product line, either into HTML output, or directly into file formats

Along with a cover story, Wired Magazine, will release a Creative Commons CD with its October issue. There will be a coinciding event in NYC in September. Artists included: Chuck D Gilberto Gil David Byrne Spoon Thievery Corporation Paul Westerberg among others... All tracks will be legally remixable. This could be a great promotional opportunity for Macromedia.
