Just some facts Smoking cigarettes causes one in every five deaths in the United States per year, that’s 443,000 deaths. Smoking causes 90% of all lung cancer deaths in men and 80% in women. Smoking increases coronary heart disease by 2 to 4 times. The chance of a having a stroke are increased by 2 to 4 times.

Cancers caused by Smoking Acute myeloid leukemia Bladder cancer Cancer of the cervix Cancer of the esophagus Kidney cancer Cancer of the larynx (voice box) Lung cancer Cancer of the oral cavity (mouth) Pancreatic cancer Cancer of the pharynx (throat) Stomach cancer

Other health affects caused by smoking cigarettes… Adverse reproductive and early childhood effects: – Infertility – Preterm delivery – Stillbirth – Low birth weight – Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

Youth and Young Adult Statistics In the U.S.A. about 3,800 kids up the age of 18 try their first cigarette – About 1,000 of these kids become daily cigarette smokers 19.5% of high school students were reported to have smoked cigarettes in 2009, 5.2% of middle school students. 22.5% of white/non-Hispanic students reported smoking cigarettes, this is the highest of all demographics
