In a confined, small, and insulated room can dogs cause the air quality to be low and possibly dangerous? Also, is the air quality of the dog room affected by the climate? Research Question
3
PM means particulate matter and the 2.5 is the the size of the matter PM 2.5 includes liquids, hydrocarbons, soot, dust, acids from aerosols, and smoke particles. A PM 2.5 particle is 2.5 microns in diameter, about 1/20 the size of human hair. The EPA limit for PM 2.5 is.035 mg/m^3 average over 24 hours PM 2.5 has been known to be a cause of asthma We spend 85% of our time indoors Background Information
4
According to the American Lung Association debris like dog hair can trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks. Poor ventilation is also a cause for poor air quality The dog room has poor ventilation and random debris like dog hair, dust, and dirt. The main concern is asthma
5
Hypothesis We believe that the PM 2.5 will be high because of the dog hair and other small particles in the dog room.
6
We used the DustTrak to collect air quality data for our dog room at our barn on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 9:00 PM on February 2013. Methods
7
Results The air quality in the dog room was significantly below the EPA Limit
8
Results We used the DustTrak to collect air quality data for our dog room at our barn on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 9:00 PM to 9:00 PM on February 5, 2013.
9
Our hypothesis was incorrect because of the lingering dust and dog hair, but our results showed the air quality was perfectly fine. Conclusions
