PASSING TREE All drop back and sprint out pass concepts will be based on the Wildcat Passing Tree illustrated below. All receivers must understand both the passing tree and the Route Concept rules and exceptions. Even numbered routes are toward the middle of the field, odd numbered routes are toward the boundary. The diagram below is from the right side of the formation. From the left the diagram would be a mirror image. ROUTE TREE Inside Receiver Outside Receiver 0 - Block 6 - Hitch 0 – Stay 6 – Hitch/Curl 1 – Arc/Arrow 7 - Flag 1 – N/A 7 – Corner 2 – Drag 8 - Post 2 – Slant 8 - Post 3 – Out 9- Seam 3 – Out 9 – Fade/Fly 4 – Cross – Dig 5 – Go – Go MIDDLE OF FIELD BOUNDARY 9 8 7 5 4 6 3 1 2

PASS PROTECTION 50/70 SERIES – HALF SLIDE PROTECTION Half Slide Protection is based on having the B Back insert into the open B Gap. The direction of the protection call is based on the defensive front, not the play call. VS. 40 FRONT Left guard will call the open B Gap – Roger for right, Louie for left. Right guard echoes the call so everyone is on same page. RB must hear the call Call side tackle has man protection on EMLOS, unless he is covered by another defender. All other linemen slide to protect the gap away from the insertion call. B Back inserts in open B gap, double reading inside to out – no threat: slide toward flat on the LOS as a potential checkdown. In two back formations, TB has rush off the call side edge. OLBs are HOT. B B B B E T N E O O C O O Roger Call VS. 50 FRONT Basic rules are the same, but insertion call is determined by formation: 2x2 formations – Insert Right/Slide Left 3x1/3x2 formations – Insert to 3 receiver side/Slide away from call OLBs are HOT B B B B E N E Y O O C O O Z A Z B Louie Call
