2. The Problem Major League Soccer in the United States which is also known as the MLS is an extremely rapid growth of any sport in the world. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. In the turn of the 21st century, soccer was played by over 250 million players in over 200 countries. However the amount of money/salary of each player really takes a bite out of our country’s economy.

3. The average salary of a player as of 2007 was $115,432.

4. That salary has rose to $138,169 in three years.

5. David Beckham is the highest paid player in the MLS. Entering the league in 2007, he has been getting paid $6.5million per year.

6. However… He does bring in a lot of fans.

7. Thierry Henry is another player who brings in over $5million per year.

8. And the only other player in the MLS to receive over $5million per year is his teammate, Rafa Marquez.

9. As of 2007 there were 5 other players that have been receiving over $1million per year.

10. MLS teams have been able to sign such expensive stars without infringing on salary cap limits thanks to the league's creation of the Designated Player Rule in 2007.

19. By winning the World Cup, the United States will then be awarded in many ways and bring in many tourist from all over the world.
