Introduction Smart grid system: A smart grid is an emerging technology in recent years which combines ordinary electricity networks with digital technology and aims to use electricity more efficiently. Smart meter networks: It is very crucial in the smart grid system which provides two-way communication services between suppliers and customers. 3

Introduction (Cont.) Quality of services (QoS) requirements : – There are many different types of messages (control, electrical usage and so forth) are transmitted between suppliers and customers. – Meet QoS requirements (bandwidth, latency and so on) of these messages is very important. Smart meter networks are service-based networks. – Provide good communication services between suppliers and customers. 4
5
Introduction(Cont.) Internet protocol: – It is a popular network technology to implement smart meter networks. – Best-effort service model Can not guarantee to provide stable and reliable services. How to best profile the Internet protocol Suite(IPS) for use in smart meter networks is very important. [1] 5

Introduction(Cont.) QoS provisioning: (design the suitable IPS for smart meter networks) – Application layer :Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) SIP functions (subscribe, notify and so forth) – Transport layer: Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) SCTP functions (multi-homing, multi-streaming and so forth) 6

Related work Building automation Networks for Smart Grids[2] – In this paper presented a framework for end-to-end interoperability in home and building area networks within smart grids. – Interoperability network architecture ZigBee/WiFi 6LoWPAN/WiFi – The QoS framework Ensure important messages are treated at higher priority than normal messages. 7

Related work(Cont.) IMS Signaling for Smart Grid Home Controllers[3] – This paper presented SIP as a suitable option for Smart Grid signaling. Evaluation of transport protocols for the session initiation protocol[4] – SIP over TCP vs SIP over SCTP QoS requirements for the Smart Grid Communi- cation System[5] – This paper addressed QoS requirements for the smart grid communications system. 8

Conclusion My thesis aims to study of transport protocols performance in smart meter networks in order to provide a reference for smart meter networks designers to profile the suitable IPS for their smart meter networks. 11
12
Future works Implement the IPS (SIP/SCTP) in real testbed in order to more understand how it cooperates with heterogeneous smart meter networks and the server on the Internet in the realistic experimental environment. 12
