Air Pressure What does air pressure have to do with weather?
2
Air Pressure Air pressure Air pressure is the result of the mass/weight of the air and temperature pushing on its surroundings. (atmospheric pressure) Measured using a BAROMETER
3
Do weather forecasters use air pressure to predict the weather? High pressure areas are formed when air is cooled. - Cool air SINKS. Low pressure is formed when air is warmed. - Warm air RISES.
4
Air Pressure High Pressure is associated with nice weather. Sunny and dry. Low pressure is associated with “bad” weather. Rainy, stormy, cloudy and/or humid.
5
Air Pressure & Frizz! Ever wonder why curly hair gets frizzy when its humid while straight hair gets flat? – Because of AIR PRESSURE! – On humid days, low air air pressure causes curly hair to “spring” up and out more than normal creating frizz. – On humid days low air pressure causes already straight hair to lay flat because it “sucks in” all the moisture in the air!
