JOHN STEINBECK 1902-1968 American author

He was born in Salinas, California. He went to university but did not get a degree (studied science, mostly marine biology). He worked in New York as a reporter but was fired for coloring stories with his own emotion. His first success was in 1935 (with Tortilla Flat). He won the Pulitzer Prize for his most famous workThe Grapes of Wrath.

Much of Steinbeck’s work focuses on the lives and problems of the working class-often migrant workers- who went to California looking for work or a better life. He uses other devices in his writing, such as: Pathos Foreshadowing Historical references Humor
