The stories of King Arthur and Beowulf have been handed down through time. The stories of these kings have been told and retold so often that what may have been fact have become legendary myths.

Both King Arthur and Beowulf are true heroes. They both do good things for others. Beowulf left his homeland to help the Danish people destroy the monster Grendel while Arthur rides into battle to destroy an evil knight who will not let people pass.

Both kings often ride into battle alone. They do this to gain greater glory and respect from their fellow knights. They are both fearless when they go into battle and neither one of them is afraid to die.

Though the kings have many similarities, they also have many differences. Beowulf is older and more experienced and Arthur is fairly young.

King Arthur has less confidence in himself and his ability to fight than Beowulf. Beowulf fights against Grendel unarmed to make sure the fight was fair and Arthur fights with weapons. He looked for a sword when he lost his.

King Arthur also had help in Merlin. Beowulf’s men were useless because Grendel used spells that made the weapons of the men useless.

King Arthur lost his battle – first in a joust and then on the ground. Merlin had to come to his aid and make the evil knight sleep for three hours. Beowulf won his battle against Grendel using only his bare hands.
