EPOCH 1000 Series Procedure Custom PA Probe-Wedge Definition
2
Custom Phased Array Probe/Wedge Definitions The EPOCH 1000i comes loaded with preset phased array probe and wedge definitions for the most common probes and wedges used with this instrument. These include the A10P, AWS1, and DGS1 series probes and associated wedges. The EPOCH 1000i can be used with other phased array probes and wedges. This requires that the user input a custom set up of the probe and/or wedge characteristics into the probe database onboard the instrument prior to use. This simple procedure allows compatibility with existing probes in the market that are not listed in the standard database.
3
Custom Probe-Wedge Definition u To begin defining a custom probe or wedge, use the PA Probe group menu and select P2 (EDIT) u Use the down arrow to select either Probe ID or Wedge ID to define a new probe or wedge u NOTE: The EPOCH 1000i features automatic probe parameter recognition for all Olympus NDT OmniScan compatible probes by reading this probe data from the information stored in the probe connector. In most cases, the user will not need to define a custom Probe. It is always recommended that the user verify the information read from the probe.
4
Custom Wedge Add and Naming u After verifying the probe information is correct, use the down arrow to highlight Wedge ID u Press P1 (Add) to add a new wedge to the instrument’s probe-wedge database u Enter the wedge ID name using the adjustment knob (to select characters) and the F1 key (to accept the highlighted character) u Once the wedge ID name is enter properly, press the CHECK key to accept the name Note: If a wedge or probe is entered incorrectly, highlight the Probe ID or Wedge ID and press P7 (Delete) to remove it from the database.
5
Custom Wedge Parameter Adjustment u Once the proper wedge name is entered, use the down arrow to highlight each wedge characteristic and adjust to the proper value –Note: To adjust values, use the adjustment knob or left/right arrow keys. Values can be adjusted in coarse or fine increments by pressing the Check key u The wedge is now stored in the instrument probe-wedge database u To use this probe and wedge combination, enter the Beam setup menu, select the new wedge ID from the wedge ID list, and continue normal beam setup and calibration procedures
6
Custom Probe and Wedge Linking u To enhance usability, the EPOCH 1000i allows the user to link a custom probe and wedge together. This means that when the custom PA probe is attached to the instrument and the user enters the BEAM setup menu, only the linked custom wedge will be available in the Wedge ID list. –This expedites selection of the wedge by not requiring the user to scroll through every available wedge. u In the Edit menu, press P1 (Link) to open the link menu u Use the down arrow to highlight the desired probe u Use the right arrow to enter the Wedge ID list u Use the CHECK key to highlight each wedge to associate with the highlighted probe u Press ESC to complete and exit
7
Custom Probe-Wedge Linking (cont.) u In the BEAM setup menu, selecting the defined custom probe now only allows the user to select the linked wedges during setup
