Prescribing Medications Dispensed medications are those that the medical facility has on hand to provide to the patient Prescription medications are those for which the patient needs to have a prescription filled at a pharmacy Meaningful Use Core Objective 4 is ePrescribing which calls for physicians to electronically generate and transmit prescriptions and prescription-related information Do This! Ordering Medications using The Problem-Focused Method Place cursor in Medications field on Visit Documentation screen (Figure 17-1) At top of screen MedTrak displaces patients allergies to medications which complies with Meaningful Use Core Objective 11 Two ways for physicians to prescribe medications are the same two ways the physician uses to place orders for x-rays or treatments Click Medications button on Visit documentation screen(Figure 17-2) Use plus and minus signs to navigate to correct medication hen click green cross to select medication Do This! Ordering Medications using The Order Code Method Second way to place order for medication is to use order code Order code can be entered directly in Medication Field on Visit Documentation screen Enter order code in Medication field Press ENTER key This method is faster because you just type the name of medication rather than locate it on the medication tree Order by Code screen appears which reads the code and displays the related order (Figure 17-4) Click SUBMIT button to confirm this is the correct medication

Order By Code Next screen is order details screen for the medication displaying number to dispense and directions for taking the medication MedTrak populates the standard way a physician writes the prescription to save time This can also be standardized by the medical facility or individual physician The physician can type over the prescribed amount to change the directions This screen has the same functionality as Open Orders screen If wrong medication was ordered click CANCEL ORDER button Do This! Printing The Patient’s Chart You will need to print and turn in the patient documentation for the patient you completed in the electronic health record Do This! Pg. 222

For Prescription Medications MedTrak includes two questions about samples: 1. How many samples did the physician dispense? 2. What is the lot number of the sample medication? If there was a recall on the sample medication given to the patient the facility could run a report and see which patients received that lot number of the sample and notify the patients about the recall To finish ordering click Submit Answers button MedTrak refreshes Order by Code screen displaying addition of the medication chosen to the right(Figure 17-7)
