Personal Comment for Flight Simulator for ATF2 Basically the concept of the flight simulator(FS) is very fine for us. It makes easy for many people to join developing tuning programs. In that sense, FS is preferable to be made by familiar application to everybody or to be coded in language easy to understand. FS is also needed to communicate with other program/machine; MAD, SAD,…,EPICS,.. MATLAB is a candidate, as G.White mentioned.

Access to Hardware Do we really need access to hardware for developing/debugging tuning programs? We can use simulated data. Beam tuning in ATF Hardware (BPM,Magnets,..) Control Program (v-menu) Orbit correction Dispersion correction …... SAD Orbit correction Dispersion correction …... meas. set Tuning program in SAD never sets the calculated values directly. ‘Set’ is always done by people, since we never know what happens in real machine. Measurement is also dangerous sometimes; Corrector, Frequency shift,.. beam loss If the answer is no, things will be simpler.

Exercise/Practice To understand FS, it is better to do with it actually. FS for ATF DR, EXT,…, could be a good exercise/practice? orbit cor. dispersion cor.... Also time to commissioning of ATF2 is about half a year. Some unknown/to-be-decided things remain. But start now with temporary solution, and go flexibly?
