COMPUTER HARDWARE ENGINEER WYATT LOCKHART, ONLINE EXPERIENCE 2013

PASSION My passion is to use computer technology, and to improve the ways computers work and how fast they run.

WHO AM I? My name is Wyatt Lockhart; a freshman at Bedford High School; I have an interest in computer technology. I am 15 years of age and enjoy playing baseball and video games.

WHY DID I CHOSE THIS CAREER? I chose this career because I am interested in computer technology. I really interested in how the computer works and all the intricate details put in to the circuitry on all the parts.

BEING A COMPUTER HARDWARE ENGINEER What do you do?- Computer hardware engineers design and create computer and related parts and pieces of equipment. What do you do in a typical day?- In a typical day you work on designing/building new computer parts. Then you work on how to make these parts work and test the ones that were already created to make sure they work and fix all the bugs

SKILLS NEEDED What stuff do you do at work?- Two important things you do at work are designing new computer parts, and making/testing parts made that require you to build computers with the parts. Things you spend the most time on?- you spend a lot of time on working on projects that involve working on your own to talk to others about problems with newer parts of computers. You spend a lot of time making new parts and creating circuitry to test out new parts. Another thing you spend a lot of time on is fixing older parts that need to be updated.

WORKING CONDITIONS Working conditions?- Spend our day working inside alone, but sometimes with a group. Also spend time working at a desk. Pro- you don’t have to go outside when it is cold, also you make a good amount of money and get to play on computers. Pro- The interviewee liked being able to create interesting designs for computer parts and being able to use computers Cons- You have to work long hours on long projects, also you may have to work on more than one project at once. Cons- They didn’t like having to work on tiny circuit boards and working long hours.

SALARY $61,000 - $148,000

DEMAND FOR THIS JOB Since the computer technology is growing rapidly there is a bigger demand for better computer parts and better computer technology related to computer hardware engineering. In 2020 There will be a 9% increase or there will be 6,300 more jobs

EDUCATION REQUIRED Education after high school- you will need to have a minimum to have a bachelor’s degree in computer hardware engineering or in related parts. Having a masters or a PhD will improve the chances of getting job

COLLEGE The college I chose was Stanford university The Cost of tuition is 43,950$ And the cost of boarding is 13,166$ The classes you should take in high school are Take Computer Classes and high levels of math such as Advanced Algebra and trigonometry; also take a year of chemistry, physics, and biology.
