2. LET’S CREATE ! We will approach this as if we are illustrators What will your Troll look like? Remember the clues about his appearance from the author Are they nice? Will they have big warm welcoming smiles? What would their skin look like? The Author tells us that they don’t come out in the sun, what texture will the skin be? How are you going to create this texture visually? Remember the description about the tail and how it was fastened? The bow you wear shall be of bright flame-colour.

3. ILLUSTRATIONS, Plan First  We will do some thumbnail drawings with details of the elements of your Troll.  The eyes, body shape, are you drawing a boy or a girl?  The tail, the bow.  The skin, how are we going to represent texture? Show me some trials of different textures in thumbnails.  Experiment with colour, try some patches in your thumbnails, Remember in the first lesson when we talked about non representative symbols? Your troll can be abstract, he could represent mischief and fear. Has that got you thinking? What would that look like?

4. WHAT YOU WILL NEED?  Start with a pencil sketch  Get your ideas down in pencil before anything is permanent.  You can use what ever media you feel works best for your overall idea, you could try felt pens, or watercolour, Ink is a favorite with illustrators, this decision should be made in your working out phase. Whatever is going to work best toward your creative outcome?  Think about combining media.  Does your illustration need colour? Have you thought about using pencil or fine pens?
