Simile A simile compares two things using the words “like” or “as”. They sing like angels. Angels are beautiful, pleasant, and good. He’s as dumb as a brick. A brick doesn’t think. It doesn’t have a brain.

Metaphor A metaphor compares two things more directly. It does not use “like” or “as”. Her heart is made of stone. What’s a stone like? Cold Hard Can hurt you A person with a stone heart doesn’t care about other people and doesn’t feel emotions.

Metaphor 2 “I’d never date him. He’s a snake.” What is a snake like? Icky / not cute Sneaky / trick people Dangerous
