2. Aim of Activity To commit to whole staff training on safety related issues. To engage with and respond to specific and local/ national initiatives and environmental and social issues. To ensure involvement and collaboration with outside statutory and voluntary agencies and individuals. Ensure hygiene procedures are in place. Involvement of families and communities in health and hygiene initiatives. Ensure minimum standards of hygiene are kept in the school environment. Review and monitor Scheme of work (PSE, SEAL) and policies for Health and Safety

3. Objectives Collect evidence of pupils work based on hygiene. Examples taken from Mind the Germs (nursery) and Teach Germ a Lesson (primary) through the PSE SoW. Provide First Aide Training for Classroom Assistants using cluster initiatives and links.

4. Follow opportunities for Safety and Hygiene with local/ initiatives – Designed to Smile – National Smile Week – Daily Tooth Brushing (infants) – Hand washing – Hygiene Heroes Campaign – Recap on Food and Hygiene training received by ‘The Cooking Bus’ – Display clear guidelines to hygiene and Safety. How to wash your hands Properly? Fruit and tuck shop hygiene? – Involve outside agencies, such as school/family nurse, community dental nurse, Red Cross to support the SoW. – Monitor staff room cleanliness. Re develop staff room with new sinks cupboards, dishwasher, carpet and painted walls. – Heart foundation – Sponsor Bounce – Road safety week – Walk to school – Sun safety week – Crucial crew – Safe communities Safe routes to school

5. Objectives continued Review and monitor policies according to Healthy schools framework. Review and monitor internet safety Obtain cycling Proficiency – juniors Collate evidence of Risk Assessments taking into account safety. Ensure clear guidelines for the playground are in place and displayed.

6. What are you already doing that relates to this action in the school? The school has obtained their Hygiene Certificate Level One. The school promotes health and safety within the school. A detailed SoW and policies are in place. The school follows local and national initiatives Walk to school, Sun safety week and Crucial Crew. The school/family nurse, community dental nurse are a familiar resource with in the school. Risk Assessments are carried out prior to any visit and within school grounds. Clear guidelines for the playground are in place and displayed. All staff have received inset.

7. What help does the school need to work towards this action ? 11. Which of the national aims does this action relate to? To provide opportunities for pupils to participate in to build their confidence and self-esteem. To identify vulnerable individuals and groups. To establish appropriate strategies to support them and their families. To use the SoW and skills ladders in relation to PSE to plan and develop curriculum opportunities for pupils to understand and explore health and safety using a range of teaching and learning styles

12. Which of the national aims does this action relate to? To value positive Health and Safety through out the school and community To develop partnerships with appropriate outside agencies and individuals. National Aims – 1-4, 6- 8, 10-12

13. How will this activity embed health promotion within the school? Encourage pupils to consider others and their actions through health and Safety. To promote H & S – through open discussion To combat tooth decay etc through daily tooth brushing. Pupils will be encouraged to promote H & S within the school curriculum.

14. How will this activity embed health promotion within the school? Staff will be aware of the policy, therefore promoting a positive ethos. Encourage children to make choices and understand responsibilities. Create a happier and healthier working culture combined with a positive productive school environment.
